Selena Gomez Says Body Shamers Drove Her To Seek Therapy

Selena Gomez has admitted that she had to have counselling to help her deal with her feelings after she became the target of cruel body shamers.

Back in April the pop star found herself at the receiving end of unkind weight jibes after paparazzi bikini photos landed while she was on holiday.

Speaking to US Weekly, Selena confessed that it’s something that she has seen a therapist to overcome.

“I’ve been working in therapy,” she said, adding: “I’d land at the airport, and people would yell out, ‘You’re fat!’ It was awful.”

At the time, the former Disney star responded in the best way possible – with a smokin’ hot photo of herself in skimpy swimwear with the caption: ‘I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove’.

Talking about the photo, Selena says: “I’ve been working since I was seven, this was the first year I ever dealt with anyone talking about my body. Even if I did gain weight, I’m fine. That’s what the picture represents.”

The singer now says that despite finding it tough at first she has now managed to channel all that negativity and turn it into a positive.

“Each year, I’m becoming more who I am. I have a little more self-awareness. I feel confident and free. I’m not going to hide in my room and be depressed,” she says.

And now, so content is Selena with her bod that she’s stripped off for the cover of her new album Revival.

On getting her kit off the 23-year-old said ‘it felt good’. Well, it certainly looks it too – serious #gymspiration right there.
