Semi fire causes temp closure on US 35

Nov. 8—Emergency responders were called to U.S. Route 35 and 18th Street on Tuesday afternoon due to reports of a semi-truck on fire near Ivy Tech.

According to Logansport Police Department Sgt. Rob Smith, the truck's driver was on his way home after making a delivery when he noticed that the engine was overheating. When he exited the semi-truck, he saw that it was on fire.

The incident caused U.S. Route 35 and 18th Street to be closed to traffic for about an hour. There were no injuries, and the semi-truck was removed from the highway.

Smith said the driver believed the fire might have been caused by an electrical problem, but there was no definite answer as to what set the semi-truck ablaze.
