Semi-truck carrying produce catches fire at Cholame ‘Y,’ slows traffic on Hwy. 46

Emergency crews were responding to a reported semi-truck on fire at the Cholame ‘Y’ on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire was reported at the intersection of Highways 46 and 41 at 5:36 p.m., according to emergency response app Pulsepoint.
Cal Fire units at the scene confirmed a commercial vehicle carrying produce was “fully involved” on the roadside as of 5:50 p.m., according to emergency scanner traffic.

The fire spread to nearby vegetation, but forward progress on that blaze was quickly halted.
According to Caltrans’ QuickMap, traffic was backing up on westbound Highway 46 as of 5:50 p.m. Eastbound traffic was being rerouted to northbound Highway 41.
