‘Sex and the City’ actress a lesbian by choice

I understand why many in the gay community feel the need to speak out against the choice argument. Part of the success of the Civil Rights Movement was you couldn't deny who was black or brown, for the most part. You were born with your skin tone. If one gay person says they choose to be gay, it gives the prejudiced nuts license to say, well if it's true for one, then that's true for all. That we shouldn't give them rights because they can "choose" to be straight, even though they know for a fact the majority of people who are gay have felt that attraction their entire lives. Many gays have tried "not to be gay" and discovered that choice meant choosing not to be sane. And, no matter if I choose to be gay or not, denying me equal rights is inherently wrong. In the CR movement, you always had some blacks who didn't feel they needed it. They were OK with the Jim Crow laws. They felt like their lives were fine, particularly some upper middle class and wealthy blacks. But, that didn't make segregation right. Today, however, you would be hard pressed to find any of those same folks who would want to go back to that era or live with in those conditions.

I totally support Cynthia Nixon. She is a brave woman to admit that. I am gay, but not by choice. Some people choose and some don't. The main key is tolerance on both sides. There is intolerance in the gay and straight community. We should all try to get along and understand each other's differences.

It is what it is a choice and when you can finally accept that you can move on and quit blaming others or circumstances for how you are and who you love. It must be very sad that some of you look at your partner and say I love you because I was born that way instead of I choose too.

One could look at it this way also. I didn't like Broccoli when I was a kid but when I was in my teen years I developed a taste for it. Now, I love broccoli, but I don't want to eat it every day. But nobody is going to tell me I can't love broccoli because I didn't love it 20 years ago.

Ok so she chose to be gay, how about BLIND, good gosh, she must be getting some royalties from reruns, you'd think she could buy something decent.

She isn't saying that EVERYONE is gay by choice. She says that was the case with HER. People should calm down and realize that regardless of WHY she is gay, she is still a wonderful ambassador for their community.

We all have a choice with whom too have sex with,...we don't choose whom we desire.ie;......I desire women, and I'm attracted to women,....I choose to act on those fellings and desires.

She chose to reside upon the Isle of Lesbos because that red-haired guy-looking person is so attractive.

The next step in America's moral decay: recognizing those that "choose" to be homosexual at the same level as those that were "born" homosexual.

this will #$%$ a lot of people off , but i don 't care . why is it that all these hollywood types have to tell the whole world that they are gay ??? or tell us there views on politcs ??? i mean i could give a #$%$ about this crap . keep this to yourself , don 't tell the every body , because maybe some people don 't give a #$%$ about it . so i what i mean to say is keep this stuff to yourself . not by telling the whole #$%$ world , just be a good actor or singer , or whatever .but please leave your sexaualty ,and politcs out from the public view . that way you don 't #$%$ off your fans .

Absolutely! Why someone is gay doesn't matter. The only reason anyone cares whether it's a choice or not is because of the bigoted anti-gay zealots. It's time we stopped being so defensive and letting the religious right define the argument.
