Simon Cowell Defends Olly Murs Following Louis Walsh Criticism

Yes, we all know that Olly Murs notoriously messed up his lines during Monica Michaels’ X Factor elimination last weekend, and no, nobody is letting him forget it.

Especially not former X Factor judge, Louis Walsh, who has slammed the show’s new host, suggesting that he should probably stick to singing.

Me-ow.

Speaking to Bang Showbiz, the Irish mogul dished: “I loved Olly’s mess up. But he made a mistake. He’s a singer, he’s not a TV presenter.

“He can just make records, he’s a great artist. He works really hard.”

Reminiscing about the good ol’ days of Dermot O’Leary and his super snug suits, he added: “Dermot was so safe, he was so professional and always had a nice tight suit.”

Thankfully for Olly, main man Simon Cowell came leaping to the star’s defence, insisting that anybody would have made a mistake if they were in his situation - and yes, that probably does include Dermot.

He told The Mirror: “There were a lot of people screaming in his ears, they were trying to get him to clarify something.

“Anyone in that situation is going to screw up. I think the way he handled it was great, it’s part of his charm.

“I think every week he’s getting better and better. People have got to get used
to it but he’s got a massive future ahead of him, 100% he’s still got my support.”

Phew, thank goodness for that, eh?

Olly was noticeably nervous when he returned to the show on Saturday night as he referenced the previous week’s mishap and stumbled over his words.

Still, with co-host Caroline Flack by his side, and big boss Simon Cowell supporting him, we don’t think that Olly has anything to worry about.
