Sir Cliff Richard Is Feeling 'Strained' By Investigation Into Sexual Abuse Allegations
It has been reported that Sir Cliff Richard is struggling with the investigation into allegations that he sexually abused a teenage boy.
The iconic musician’s home was raised by South Yorkshire Police back in 2014 and it is thought that the investigation will be ongoing for another few months.
Cliff’s close friend, David Wigg, has now opened up about the case - admitting that he is “appalled” by how long the process is taking.
Speaking to The Mirror, he shared: “It is really appalling it is taking so long. As far as I’m concerned Sir Cliff has had an unblemished life. I don’t believe any of these accusations. I don’t understand why this is taking so long.
"I think it’s awful for him and it’s been a tremendous strain not having any conclusion for so long.”
He added to the paper that he felt that Cliff was being targeted due to his celebrity status, explaining: “He has been left shocked and strained by the allegations.
"In cases like this that person is damaged professionally whatever the outcome. It’s been a tremendous shock and strain for him. It seems like something of a witch-hunt.”
David isn’t the first of Cliff’s friends to speak out in support of the star, with Paul Gambaccini previously defending the British singer.
He is quoted as saying: “If Cliff is ever convicted of offences, down to and including traffic violations, I will eat my hat.”
Cliff has categorically denied all allegations.
