Small risk of severe weather forecasted for Milwaukee on Tuesday

Beautiful Monday weather will give way to a chance of thunderstorms and a small risk of severe weather on Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service rated Tuesday’s risk at a 1/5 or marginal risk of severe weather and said the main potential hazards were quarter-sized hail and gusting winds. It’s expected to rain in the morning before the potential for storms comes in Tuesday afternoon and evening.

“We’re not expecting any severe widespread weather,” said J.J. Wood, a meteorologist at the Milwaukee office of the NWS. "It’s all dependent on how much sunshine (the area gets.)”

Wood said that if the morning rain cleara out fast enough and sunshine warms the area, it could pair with moisture in the air to create enough instability to lead to severe weather.

Wood said rain Tuesday was predicted between .25 to .5 inches, but could vary in some areas, especially if thunderstorms develop.

The remainder of the week’s forecast is mostly fair for Milwaukee, with more precipitation predicted.

Monday’s weather is forecasted to be nice, with temperatures in Milwaukee peaking around 64 degrees in the early afternoon with mostly sunny skies throughout the day. The NWS is forecasting highs of 66 degrees tomorrow, 67 degrees on Wednesday, 56 degrees on Thursday and 60 degrees on Friday.

There are more chances of showers on Wednesday afternoon and evening, including a possible thunderstorm. Thursday also brings a chance of rain, with possible thunderstorms and winds reaching up to 30 miles per hour.
