The Socialists Are Out in Full Force This Election Season

COMMENTARY | Political lunacy is gaining force this election season. City University of New York professor Frances Fox Piven, the unofficial head cheerleader for the Occupy Wall Street movement, is hoisting her Marxist ideals upon impressionable college students. Piven is challenging the Occupy movement protestors to "change tactics," default on student loans and gain control of foreclosed properties, according to The Blaze. The lawlessness will further erode the struggling economy and add to the burdens of hard-working taxpayers.

Destroying public spaces, vandalizing businesses and obstructing folks attempting to get to work are apparently not extreme enough for the radical professor. During a Skype lecture for UC Berkeley students, Piven presented her "game plan" to increase potentially dangerous and illegal actions, The Blaze reports.

Piven suggested relocating the movement from public parks to university buildings during the classroom talk. The aging professor must be growing nostalgic for her sign-carrying days during the 1960s. Civil rights protestors demonstrated against true injustice while attempting to improve the nation. The fiscally irresponsible goals of the Occupy movement foster an increased sense of entitlement and further erode the concept of personal responsibility.

Understanding how the misguided far-left mind works is beyond comprehension for fiscal conservatives who want to see America flourish. The road to prosperity is not paved with sign waving and rhythmic chants but hard work. The liberal professor even encouraged sociologists to help students figure out a way to prevent wage garnishment if they refuse to pay back student loan debt. Refusal to repay government loans is tantamount to stealing from American workers.

Should Piven's suggestions result in action, thousands of foreclosed properties across the country will soon have Occupy squatters making themselves to home. Piven's insipid goals include a plan to turn the squatters into the legal owners of foreclosed residences and force the return of utility services to the homes. The real estate market would never recover should the socialistic agenda come to pass.

The massive sense of entitlement of Piven and her Occupy pals defies reason. Liberal lawmakers turned temporary government aid programs into a way of life and now a growing number of Americans expect a life of free housing, free health care, free food, free transportation and even free cell phones. The madness must end before the American dream becomes nothing more than a fleeting memory.

Ultimately, many of the photos and cellphone records of Trayvon Martin released online Thursday by George Zimmerman’s defense attorneys – indicating that the slain teenager smoked marijuana, got into fights at school, and had an interest in, and perhaps access to, guns – may be ruled inadmissible in court. But they are already making the rounds in the court of public opinion, which can influence everything from fundraising efforts to the mind-set of potential jurors in Mr. Zimmerman's murder trial.
