Song Premiere: ‘Voice’/’Biggest Loser’ Star Erin Willett Shares Her Journey on ‘Out of the Darkness’

Fans of pop-soul singer Erin Willett, a standout Team Blake contestant on Season 2 of The Voice, were surprised this year when she resurfaced on reality television, this time on NBC’s The Biggest Loser. Her return chronicles her emotional rollercoaster journey over the past few years, which included the death of her father from cancer, increasing insecurity about her weight during her time in the spotlight, and, ultimately, a battle with an eating disorder.

And now, Erin is sharing her harrowing but inspiring story via her new single, “Out of the Darkness,” premiering exclusively today on Yahoo Music’s Reality Rocks.

“Music has gotten me through any hard time in my life. Whether it is cranking the volume to bust out a workout, or writing a song to decompress and wrap my mind around something I’m struggling with, music has always been there,” Erin tells Yahoo Music. “’Out of the Darkness’ is a song I wrote that helped me realize how much I was getting in my own way. Our outlook on what we as people are capable of is sometimes even more important than the act of changing. This experience on The Biggest Loser has given me the opportunity to find out what I can do when I silence my mind and just do.

“‘Out of the Darkness’ is vulnerable and harsh, but it allows me to open up about my internal struggles – struggles that most of us, no matter what age, race, sex, socioeconomic level, etc., deal with on a daily basis. It is about silencing those demons and seeing what you are made of.”

Erin will perform “Out of the Darkness” on next Monday’s episode of The Biggest Loser, when the song will also be released nationwide.
