Sony Xperia Z4 Could Debut in January
Sony's bizarre "Welcome to the New World" commercial doesn't showcase much in the way of tech, but if you look closely you just might see the company's newest smartphone. With CES 2015 right around the corner, it's possible that this cryptic ad is teasing a possible January debut for Sony's rumored Xperia Z4 handset.
While the ad cuts between strange, random images - including a lizard, a child with his pregnant mother and a close-up shot of someone's arm hair raising - the real meat is in the intro. The video shows a hand about to grab what looks like a smartphone; one with black edges and silver panels on either side. The commercial's first few seconds also depict a small girl eating a lollipop, perhaps hinting that the Z4 will be the first Sony phone to launch with Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Gizmodo provided another potential look at the Xperia Z4 in the form of a leaked Sony e-mail, which appears to use the smartphone as part of a marketing pitch for the upcoming 007: Spectre film. The image found in the leaked e-mail shows a phone that looks similar to the Z3, with metallic edges, a glass front panel and a power button, volume rocker and dedicated shutter button on the right side.
Android Origin has reported on the Z4's potential specs, which include a 5.5-inch quad HD display, a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The Z4 is rumored to be the first Xperia with LTE Cat.6 connectivity, and it could sport a curved Exmor RS CMOS camera sensor similar in resolution to the 20.7 MP Xperia Z3.
Released just months ago, the Sony Xperia Z3 earned 4 out of 5 stars on our sister site Laptop Mag, thanks to its super-sharp camera, long battery life, crisp 5.2-inch display and PS4 Remote Play support. While it seems a bit soon for a sequel, the promise of a new Xperia with an even better display and camera might give Sony smartphone fans enough reason to hold out.
