South Korea to Host 2018 Winter Olympics

The 2018 winter Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the International Olympic Committee announced today. The city edged out Munich and Annecy, France, to claim the right to host the worldwide event. According to Reuters, Pyeongchang was "widely considered to be the favorite" when IOC President Jacques Rogge announced earlier today that the committee had given one city an outright majority in the first round of voting. The official decision will bring the games from Europe, where they are slated for the city of Sochi, in the Russian state of Krasnodar Krai, in 2014.
