Spain's king to undergo back hernia operation

MADRID (AP) — Spain's royal palace says King Juan Carlos will undergo surgery next month for a lower back disc hernia.

It will be the 75-year-old monarch's second operation in recent months. He had hip surgery last November.

The palace said the king will undergo the hernia operation in a Madrid hospital on Mar. 3.

The king has had several other health issues in the past two years, including knee surgery and the removal of a benign lung tumor.
