Need for Speed reboot trailer brings the series back underground

Need for Speed: Most Wanted was one of my favorite games of the last generation. It’s the second best open world racing game ever made (after the inimitable Forza Horizon 2), but its follow-up, Need for Speed Rivals, just didn’t connect with me. I wanted something even bigger and more impressive, but what I got was a conservative step into the new console generation.

A year and a half later, developer Ghost Games is back with another Need for Speed, and the first teaser just went live.

EA and Ghost Games haven’t revealed much about the new entry, but according to a press release we received earlier today, this will be a “full reboot” for the series. The development team says that Need for Speed (which appears to be the game’s full title) will offer “deep customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative.”

Many were expecting this to be a full-fledged sequel to Need for Speed: Underground 2. It definitely appears to share a great deal in common with that branch of the series, but it’s not looking like the name will over.

We’ll have to wait until E3 2015 to learn more, but you can watch the first teaser trailer for the reboot below:
