Spielberg's 'Jurassic Park' will return in 3D

Steven Spielberg's 1993 hit film about the return of prehistoric dinosaurs will be converted to 3D for release in theaters in July 2013, reported Variety.

The 3D version would celebrate the 20th anniversary of the sci-fi adventure, which starred Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Based on the Michael Crichton novel, the story is about a cloned raptor escaping into a theme park. The conversion to 3D could significantly heighten the terror.

Following the lead of Disney's reissues of its animated films including The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast as well as the upcoming Titanic anniversary release, Jurassic Park could break $1 billion at the box office with the total gross standing at $914.6 million.

Spielberg may be competing with himself that weekend next year with his upcoming sci-fi horror story Robopocalypse scheduled to hit cinemas over the US's July 4 holiday.

There is also speculation that a fourth film, Jurassic Park IV, could go into production.
