Spike Lee Talks Up ‘Cronies’ And Former Students At Sundance – Video

Spike Lee talks with me in the video above about his latest “joint,” Cronies, for which he is executive producer, and backing up-and-comers who’ve made interesting films, like Michael Larnell, who turned his NYU thesis project into a Sundance festival world premiere.

“It’s a brand new ball game” for indie filmmakers now, Lee told me, given all the outlets now buying or backing projects on a wide range of subjects that previously couldn’t find mass markets.

Larnell, one of Lee’s former students at New York University’s film school, wrote and directed Cronies, which stars George Sample III as a young man navigating adulthood and the possible end of his friendship with a character played by Zurich Buckner.
