    Although the Android platform has surpassed iOS in market share, its developers have not seen that translate into revenues. According to investment bank Piper Jaffray, Android has generated just $330 million in gross revenue from paid apps compared to $4.9 billion from iOS. This has pushed Android developers to embrace new monetization strategies and a recent study by analytics firm Distimo revealed that 68% of the 25 highest grossing Android applications use in-app purchases.
