Sri Lanka bats first vs. Pakistan in Asia Cup

FATULLAH, Bangladesh (AP) — Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews won the toss and elected to bat first against defending champion Pakistan in Tuesday's opening match of the Asia Cup.

Sri Lanka gave a one-day international debut to 24-year-old left-handed batsman Chaturanga de Silva after seasoned batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

Mahela Jayawardene returned to the lineup after missing the previous two limited-overs series against Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Pakistan fielded its frontline playing eleven and left out left-handed batsman Fawad Alam, who was recalled for the tournament.

Hosts Bangladesh, India and first-timer Afghanistan are the other participating nations.
