St. Louis firm recalling about 123 pounds of frozen meatballs due to possible listeria
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture says a St. Louis company is recalling more than 100 pounds of its frozen, ready-to-eat meatballs because of possible bacterial contamination.
The USDA said in a release Thursday that P.E. & F. Inc. of St. Louis is recalling about 123 pounds of its Fazio's Meatballs because of possible contamination with listeria monocytogenes. There have been no reports of illness.
The meatballs are in 15 oz. packages. Each package has a lot code of "041114," and bears the establishment number "EST. 13051" inside the USDA mark of inspection. The products were produced April 11, 2013, and sold at retail locations in the St. Louis area.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which is an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Symptoms can include high fever and severe headache.
