Star Wars: The Force Awakens Production Company Charged for Harrison Ford's On-Set Injury

British authorities are prosecuting Star Wars: The Force Awakens producers after Harrison Ford broke his left leg while filming in 2014.

The U.K.'s Health and Safety Executive announced Thursday that Foodles Production Ltd, a London-based subsidiary of the Walt Disney Co., will face four charges for the Pinewood Studios incident and is due to appear at the High Wycombe Magistrates Court on May 12.

"HSE has today informed Foodles Production (UK) Ltd that it will be prosecuted over four alleged breaches of health and safety law," a spokesperson said in the press release. "The charges relate to an incident during filming of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, which left Harrison Ford with serious injuries after he was hit by a heavy hydraulic door."

The release added that the HSE investigated the incident "thoroughly" before deciding they had sufficient evidence for a court case.



The four breaches include that Foodles didn't ensure the "health, safety and welfare" of its employees; that employees were not protected from "risks to their health and safety"; that workplace risks were not suitably assessed, and, that measures to prevent "access to any dangerous part of machinery" were not taken.

Ford's leg was broken while filming a scene on the Millennium Falcon. One of the hydraulic metal doors fell on the 73-year-old and he was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital. Ford had surgery and underwent rehab, altering the film's shooting schedule.

But Han Solo eventually returned, with the iconic star using a special crutch to aide in his recovery.
