‘Star Wars: Identities’ exhibit explores 'The Forces' through character posters
From the mythic tales of the Star Wars film franchise comes an exhibit on display at the Montreal Science Center Museum, April 19-September 16, that examines his iconic characters and asks ‘What Forces Shape You?
Inventive posters promoting the show depict iconic characters from George Lucas's Star Wars films including villain Darth Vader, wise Yoda, robot CP3O, and a Stormtrooper.
The portraits are created as collages using elements from the film that reflect the character. The illustrations were created by Louis Hebert with Bleublancrouge and Montreal's X3 Productions.
The interactive experience explores Jedi knights, Luke and Anakin Skywalker, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Yoda, examining three major themes: "the origins of the characters, the influences that shape them, and the choices they make during their life."
In turn, the innovative show takes visitors on an adventure into the science of identity, delving into Star Wars intergalactic characters, from Jedi hero Luke to Anakin Skywalker, the famous father and son duo who became such different people.
The installation also shows extensive archival materials, displaying more than 200 objects from Lucasfilms' archives of props, models and artwork, featuring Darth Vader's caped costume, the Millennium Falcon model and a full-sized Podracer. It also offers behind-the-scenes details and fun facts from the movie-making process.
Created with the team that mounted the Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology exhibit, items are collected from Star Wars' classic period (1977-83) to the prequel trilogies (1999-2005) and the television series.
An Identity Quest provides insightful psychological and scientific information about the Star Wars Identities through 10 components of identity -- whether real or fiction, including genes, parents, culture, influences, occupation, personality, and choices to form the journey of the exhibition.
Visitors will leave with their own unique hero inspired by the Star Wars universe.
The show then travels to Edmonton's Telus World of Science, October 27-April 1, 2013.
