Star Wars: The Force Awakens Passes $2 Billion At The Box Office

There had been plenty of speculation in 2015 whether ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ would become the biggest film of all time.

While debate was rife, some argued it wouldn’t get past the $2 billion mark to challenge ‘Titanic’ and the top spot held by ‘Avatar’.

Well now, just over seven weeks since it’s release, J.J. Abrams’ epic sci-fi adventure has passed the $2 billion milestone, with a cool $2,008,361,469 as of 7 February.

Sitting third in the biggest grossers or all time list, it looks likely that it’ll overtake James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ which is on $2,186,772,302.

However, the big prize is toppling Cameron’s other flick - the epic CGI adventure ‘Avatar’ - which rests at the summit on a whopping $2,787,965,087.

‘The Force Awakens’ has already become the biggest domestic release (that’s how well it’s done in the US specifically) with a $906 million haul so far.

What’s scary is that these figures are certain to rise throughout February and beyond, should the film remain in cinemas past this month and if it were to get any sort of Director’s Cut re-release further down the line.

‘Jurassic World’ surprised us all in 2015 with its record-breaking profits and how quickly it achieved them. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ has eclipsed all of those feats and Disney has its sights firmly set on the number one spot.

Will it get there? Let’s be honest, it’s looking very likely, so expect it to make more headlines throughout 2016.
