‘Star Wars’ Trailer Traffic Tops ‘Batman v Superman’ on YouTube, Facebook

In a battle of hot 2015 movie trailers, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” appears to have the lead in current YouTube and Facebook views.

During the first 24 hours since its release April 16, the second trailer for the next “Star Wars” installment generated 38.1 million views across Facebook, its official YouTube channel and all other YouTube channels that picked up the clip, according to ListenFirst Media.

That tops the 30 million views during the 24 hours following the official release of “Batman v Superman” on those platforms on April 17. Potentially impacting the performance of “B v S” was the fact the trailer was leaked before Warner Bros. released it officially.

However, ListenFirst Media, which collected the data, believes “Star Wars” is the current king of the 2015 movie trailers for now. “Star Wars” also topped the YouTube and Facebook viewing stats of trailers of other eagerly anticipated 2015 releases. The “Terminator: Genisys” trailer snagged 15.4 million views in the 24 hours following its Dec. 4 launch last year. Others in “Star Wars'” wake are trailers for “Mad Max” and “Ant-Man,” grabbing 10.3 million and 5.6 million in the first 24 hours since their respective launches.
