    Starbucks CEO Says Unemployment Rate Nothing to Celebrate

    Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who has been floated as a possible presidential candidate for a third-party run, said Friday that the unemployment level is nothing to celebrate.

    Speaking in a Friday interview that aired Sunday on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday, Schultz said that though the economy has improved "on the margin," a decrease from 9.1 percent to 8.3 percent unemployment isn't good enough.

    "It's almost a fracturing of the morality of America when we're celebrating these kinds of statistics when we have so many people in the country who can't find a job," he said.

    Despite murmurs that Schultz could enter the presidential race, he told CNN's Candy Crowley that he had "no interest in public office."

      The Republicans love the higher unemployment because they can just blame everything on Obama. They're the ones who killed the jobs bills and only pushed for tax cuts against the uber wealthy, then blame Obama. The party of No will hurt America just to hurt Obama.

      When Starbucks raised their bean price 30% I started roasting my own. It takes less than 30 minutes is MUCH better coffee and less than half the price, $5-6/lb.

        So, you have a coffeee pot in your lap or passenger seat when driving.
        I go to coffee shops when i need a quick fix of java while on the road.
        When at home i make my own.
        Coffee shops aren't there to replace home brew coffee.

      yes they have been jobs openings out there...Temporary jobs, that requires collegue degrees current working experience and tons of skills, offering low wages and without benefits...those are the jobs that the goverment is bragging that americans are being employed...sweet....we do not have more options or you take it or you take it....

      and poor all of those souls who have lost their medical insurance due to layoffs, that are single not having support from a husband or wife who has an active medical insurance to cover them, they are just -fried- just living by God's mercy, and if they are single mothers... total risk.

      Unemployment rate just indicates hte number of unemployed collecting beenfits, but once they dissapear form the list, nobody know what happened with them if they found a job to survive, or they are just living homeless, Well I guess we will figure out the real situation once we start hearing about another wave of foreclosures and bankrupcies.

      That improvement isn't good enough for him. Well then he should concentrate on improving the crappy baked goods he sells ( that are mass-produced in huge factories) and forget about politics.

      Uh, I think the "celebration" is more accurately described as an optimistic response to what we all hope is a sign of decreasing unemployment over the long term. Of course it's "not enough." Schultz really isn't bright enough to run a country. Like Herman Cain, he should stick to serving food and beverage. Also, a big red F to National Journal for reporting this as anything but an offhand comment.

      this country's catering to capitalist criminals is bankrupting us all...we need to stop it...12 years of GW BUSH tax cuts...where are the FREAKEN JOBS!?!?!?!?!? Why do we still give out tax cuts and corporate loop holes? WHY!?!?!?! I blame it mostly on Republicans...but the Democrats need to speak out loud and clear, like what I'm doing on here. Loud and clear. But the Democrats are wussies.

        Do you know what a tax cut is?
        A tax cut is the Government letting you keep more of what you have EARNED.
        The Government only confiscates money from people who earn it and gives to people who haven't.

      The CEO of Starbucks bemoaning the unemployment rate while paying his employees ridiculously low wages is such a joke. Scultz should go back and serve his overrpiced lattes.

        So a guy pouring coffee should get 50 bucks an hour? Look the model works. He sells for a certain price and costs are in line. No one has to work there so don't begrudge a guy for creating a whole industry by remaking it. He is a genius.

        I guess because it is election year, he will take credit for all the "good" news (such as it is) and conveniently ignore the bad stuff. Not only that, he has no idea how often he contradicts himself. Before it was "I cannot get anything accomplished because of the horrible Republican congress" and now? suddenly he takes credit for the amazingly LOW reduction in unemployment. How did he actually accomplish it? Newsflash: he didn't!
