Steelers TE Spaeth out 8-10 weeks

The Pittsburgh Steelers have problems at the tight end position.

Steelers tight end Matt Spaeth has a Lisfranc injury in his foot that is likely to sideline him for eight to 10 weeks, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Friday.

That means the Steelers may begin the regular season without their top two tight ends.

Starting tight end Heath Miller is still recovering from anterior-cruciate ligament surgery and is not expected to be ready for the regular-season opener.

Tight end David Johnson is on the physically unable to perform list with a knee injury as well.

The Steelers signed Spaeth in the offseason to be Miller's backup. Last year, Spaeth played in 16 games, including eight starts, for the Chicago Bears. He had six receptions for 28 yards.
