SteelSeries Sentry Tracks How You See Games

What sets pro gamers apart from the rest of us is that they are usually much more aware of what's going on in front of them, and are able to react to it much more quickly. If you have aspirations of taking on the tournament scene, the SteelSeries Sentry, a device that tracks how your eyes monitor your computer screen, may be able to teach you some good habits.

SteelSeries announced the Sentry just in time for E3 2014, and while Tom's Guide saw the device, we did not get a chance to go hands-on (or perhaps more accurately, eyes-on). What we can say about the device is that it is a rectangular bar, a little more than a foot long, that rests beneath a computer monitor at a slight upward angle.

From there, the Sentry keeps track of how a user's eyes move, and how long he or she lingers at any given spot on the screen, via a small white circle of light. This circle moves across the screen and focuses on whatever the player focuses on. An analytics screen, which players can position over their game of choice, keeps track of eye motion and how often players view each part of the monitor.

That's really all there is to the device: See where your eyes wander, and use that information to help address bad habits that might be holding you back in fast-paced, competitive multiplayer games. This is admittedly not very useful for everyday players (there are much more efficient ways to improve your performance), but gamers hoping to go pro need every advantage they can get, and could theoretically get some use out of the Sentry.

The Sentry has no set price or release date yet, but interested users can sign up at the SteelSeries website for email notifications as more information becomes available.
