Stephen Colbert, J.J. Abrams to Hold a Nerd-Off at Montclair Film Festival

The Montclair Film Festival has lined up noted nerds Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams for a fundraiser event this fall that will see the duo hold a public discussion on their influences and work.

Set for late November, “Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams: Celebrity Nerd-Off!” will take place just as the hype for Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reaches it peak ahead of the film’s Dec. 18 release. Colbert, meanwhile, will be fresh off the publicity push for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” which launches Sept. 8.

The “nerd-off” will be the second opportunity this year for New York area fans to catch Colbert do a live interview with a “Star Wars” filmmaker, after he emceed a public discussion with George Lucas as part of the Tribeca Film Festival in April.

Colbert has been associated with the Montclair Film Festival for a few years now; he’s previously hosted public talks for the festival with names that have included Steve Carell and Richard Gere. Funds from the Colbert-Abrams discussion will go toward supporting festival, the fifth edition of which runs April 29-May 8, 2016.

“Stephen Colbert and J.J. Abrams: Celebrity Nerd-Off!” is set for Nov. 21 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, just outside of Manhattan in Newark, N.J.
