Stephen Colbert Talks Pope Francis, Lent, Favorite Hymns

Everyone wants an interview with Stephen Colbert as he preps to take over CBS’s flagship late-night show from retiring David Letterman.

Catholic America Media boasted today it “brings you an exclusive interview with Stephen Colbert.” Only the interview is about “Stephen’s Catholic smarts.”

Colbert, still sporting that white beard he’s been grooming since leaving Comedy Central, divulged the name of his fave saint, his favorite hymn, what he thinks of 60’s hymns (not a fan), what he’s giving up for Lent, that he wants to ask Pope Francis what he does every morning that makes him so happy all the time — probably prayer and “the fact that you’re Pope.”

A trend is shaping up: Colbert next will appear on The Mindy Project as Father Michael O’Donnell. Mindy Kaling broke the news last month on Twitter:
