Steve Burton Talks New Young & The Restless Character, Leaving Jason Morgan's Black Tee Behind

Steve Burton exited "General Hospital" last year, after more than two decades on the ABC soap, but earlier this week, he returned to daytime as Dylan McAvoy on CBS' "The Young and the Restless."

"He's Avery's ex-boyfriend and he's a war veteran," Steve told AccessHollywood.com's Laura Saltman, of his newly introduced character, who has a history with Jessica Collins' Avery Clark. "He's taking over his family's construction business. But he and Avery met, they had a great relationship, he went off to war, and he's basically coming to Genoa [City] to see if she's available.

Steve has been enjoying his new role, which he sees as contrasting heavily to his "GH" character, Jason Morgan.

"[Dylan is] extremely different. That's the biggest thing for me, that after playing a character, which I loved, for 21 years, coming here and trying to do something different - 'cause I know fans are always gonna see me as that character if they watch the show and if they watch both shows... So, it's definitely a challenge because I was so used to playing that character," Steve said. "Now that I'm here I feel like I can do a little more, show a little more of my personality 'cause Jason was always so confined... And now, [with] this character, I'm still trying to figure it out."

One of the things that has made Steve happy is changing up his wardrobe.

"It was all about that black T-shirt and the leather jacket [as Jason Morgan], so if I can get rid of that and the hair that was like this (flips his hands up), I might have a chance," he laughed.

    • Teens Are Turning Away from Facebook Because Tumblr Is Real, and Parent-Free

Teenagers really are over Facebook. In February the social network warned investors that "our younger users ... are aware of and actively engaging with other products and services similar to, or as a substitute for, Facebook." And in April the investment bank Piper Jaffray reported that products and services like Tumblr and Twitter were further eroding Facebook's dominance among the Justin Bieber set. But why? In a deep report published on Tuesday, Pew Research explains that teenagers departing the social network's blue confines are looking for something more... real. ...
