Steve Jobs' $4.6B in Disney shares go to trust

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs' $4.6 billion worth of shares in The Walt Disney Co. are now in a trust run by his wife, Laurene Powell Jobs.

That's according to a securities filing made Wednesday.

Jobs acquired the 138 million shares when Disney bought his Pixar Animation Studios for $7.4 billion in 2006. With a 7.7 percent stake, Jobs' trust is Disney's largest single shareholder.

Jobs bought the fledgling computer imaging company from "Star Wars" creator George Lucas for a total investment of $10 million in 1986 and kept it going with his own money.

He later took Pixar public after the successful debut of "Toy Story" in 1995.

The creative executive behind the iPod, iPhone and iPad died last month at age 56 after battling pancreatic cancer.

Steve Jobs brought products to market that people actually wanted. Contrast to Wall Street, where financiers trade pieces of paper called 'derivatives' back and forth and demand multi-trillion dollar bailouts when they inevitably go broke.

How can they omit the iMac??? Without Jobs coming back and coming up with the iMac, Apple would have ceased to exist. FACT.

The money belongs to him, as he bought the company from Lucas. If those who post have an issue with someone making millions, you have several options. First don't buy any of the products made by his companies and secondly, get your own millions by being creative and ahead of the average business person.

Don't know how this became an Apple Vs Microsoft turf war...I was just curious to know if Steve Jobs donated to that fund, I know Warren Buffet is leaving his estate...I was just curious to know if Jobs did. I'm sure he donated to his own causes, or maybe has a foundation in his own name...

Jobs did not give one dime to charity

George Lucas evidently directs start up companies like he does prequels...poorly.
      • Engineer Zero 6 mths ago
In fairness to Lucas, Jobs lost a lot of money on Pixar too before it turned a profit. The storytelling was always high quality, but the technology just wasn't there in the early years.

Lucas is one of the American film industry's most financially successful directors/producers, with an estimated net worth of $3.2 billion as of 2011.

Why should any of us have a say on how the profits earned should be spent as a result of his death? Have any of you made money on an investment resulting in you making millions, does that mean, "Joe Bob" should have a say???? Get a grip and let it go.

      On another note:

Windows was cool in the 90's and now Apple is cool...so goes the story. I am sure most of you own an IPhone and the IPad. I will give you this, the IPhone is a great phone, but the IPad is a WASTE of your money. Please give me a real world busines use for this single threaded device. The IPad is a toy for simple people. Period.

I dare say the world is a better place due to his time with us. The wealth he created has found its way into the darkest corners of the world, and for that, we can be thankful, or maybe just respectful. Personally, I find good reason to suspect the good lord found great value in his life, even though we all may find the personal accounting difficult to understand.

Wow, think of how much good all that money could do!
    • BfromCT  •  6 mths ago
Keep in mind that this "visionary/wonderful human being", as people refer to him, didn't leave any of his billions to any charitable organization. For those that "thumbs down", go #$%$ mother. There are hungry children out there today that could have been fed with a very small portion of the money his heirs will NEVER be able to spend. They'd never miss it but it could've done some good.
    • soltotravels  •  6 mths ago
never met the man, bought all his products, and even when it was said to be toast, 14 dollars was a good deal.......... his vision will live for centuries to come......... so will his money, well deserved, and make your own then have something to say......

Exactly how much money does one need to live a good life. Even with out the Disney trust- his heirs wont have to work a day for the next 200 years. Im no liberal but I say that about most folks who hoard it away- for what? planning on coming back in the next life to claim it?
