Steven Pasquale Cast As Male Lead In CBS’ New ‘Doubt’ Pilot

Steven Pasquale (The Good Wife) is set as the male lead opposite Katherine Heigl in CBS‘ new pilot for legal drama Doubt. The project, from writers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, CBS TV Studios and Timberman/Beverly Prods, centers on Sadie Ellis (Heigl), a smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who shockingly gets romantically involved with one of her clients, the decent, altruistic pediatric surgeon Billy (Pasquale), who may or may not be guilty of murdering a 15-year-old girl many years ago.

CBS originally piloted the project last season with KaDee Strickland and Teddy Sears as Sadie and Billy. The pilot did not make the cut to series in May, but the network left the legal drama in contention for a new pilot. The lead roles of Sadie and Billy were set for recasting, while the rest of the original cast is returning. Pasquale was the first choice for Billy, and I hear he started talks before Heigl got into the picture but his deal took longer to work out as production on the potential series was moved from New York to Los Angeles for Heigl when she was cast.

Heigl and Pasquale join returning cast members Laverne Cox, Dule Hill, Dreama Walker, Elliott Gould and Kobi Libii. Also coming back is director Adam Bernstein who helmed the original pilot.

Executive producing the pilot are Tony Phelan & Joan Rater, Carl Beverly & Sarah Timberman and Bernstein.

In addition to his recent arc on CBS/CBS Studios’ The Good Wife, Rescue Me alum Pasquale also recently recurred on the Netflix series Bloodline and starred in the Broadway production of The Bridges Of Madison County. He is repped by ICM Partners and Brookside Artist Management.
