Stocks struggle to stay positive amid global unrest

News out of Turkey that the country's military shot down a Russian fighter jet that crossed into its airspace seemed to weigh on U.S. equities (^DJI, ^GSPC, ^IXIC) through lunch before the market rebounded, shrugging off the latest bad headline from that part of the globe.

Winners and losers
While the rest of the market came back after spending the morning lower, travel names like Royal Caribbean (RCL), Delta (DAL), and United (UAL) all dipped lower and stayed there today.

As for the names that fared a bit better, retailers such as Dollar Tree (DLTR), Urban Outfitters (URBN) and Tiffany (TIF) were all popping today. The luxury jeweler is higher despite an earnings miss that sent shares lower in the pre-market this morning.

Looking ahead

• There will be plenty of economic data to digest tomorrow ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. We'll get the University of Michigan consumer survey, personal income, and weekly unemployment claims, to name but a few.

• A busy holiday shopping season eventually leads to a lot of waste. We'll talk with David Steiner, CEO of Waste Management (WM), about how his company prepares for this time of year.

And we'll give you a sneak preview at some of the new floats set to debut in this years Macy's (M) Thanksgiving Day Parade

Adele break sales record
You can bet if Adele were a publicly-traded stock, the singer's shares would have soared higher today. Her new album "25" has sold a record 2.3 million copies in the U.S. in just its first three days of release. That means she'll break *NSync's record of 2.4 million sold in the first week—set all the way back in March 2000. Maybe worth noting—that's the same month the Nasdaq peaked before the dot.com crash.

Walmart's "Cyber Sunday"
You don't have to wait to make all your purchases at work on Cyber Monday. Wal-Mart (WMT) announced that Cyber Monday will start Sunday night at 8pm. The company says there will be 2,000 special deals, including three times as many Star Wars toys as last year. Wal-Mart also announced Cyber Monday is extending until December 4th—making it Cyber Week.

WD-40 CEO
WD-40 (WDFC) is known mainly for its namesake product: a multi-purpose spray that the company touts has 2,000 uses and counting. It’s all the more impressive then that company has doubled its business in the last decade under CEO Garry Ridge. If that weren’t enough, the Australian-born chief expects to double it again in the next 10 years. Check out the video above to find out how he plans to do it.
