Student ranks thinning for blogging Pa. teacher

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — More than 200 parents have told a Pennsylvania school district they don't want their children taught by a teacher who called students "frightfully dim" and "disengaged, lazy whiners" on her personal blog.

Central Bucks East High School Superintendent Robert Laws say he expects the district to get "a lot more requests" from parents who want to keep their children away from English teacher Natalie Munroe.

The Doylestown Intelligencer reports 62 requests came from parents whose children were scheduled to be in Munroe's classes. District officials had estimated Munroe would have 90 students in her three classes.

Munroe was suspended in February after district officials learned of her blog.

Laws says a substitute will likely be hired to take on the students who won't be taught by Monroe. Classes begin Tuesday.

Ever seen the movie "Idiocracy"? That is where we are headed... I have 4 of them.... all dumber than a post. Hate to say it, but it's true. I worked my #$%$ off to teach them better... they chose differently. I was "too strict" according to them. Now not one of them can hold a job. When they do work, it's for peanuts and mostly temporary work. Range in age from 18 to 26. Lazy, dumb as hell every one.

I only have two, but the exact same thing happened here. Worked two full-time jobs, lived in the best school district, and mine complain that "All I did was give them stuff and was never there". They were set up to succeed and yet, they choose to fail.....big time. Biggest disappointment in my life, because I wanted them to have better than I had, yet I currently have one heading to jail and one that just finished probation. It is amazing how they can get caught up with the wrong kids and disregard everything you have taught them. I wish you luck and hopefully they mature.

Here is the problem: Parents can not be fired. We hold teachers accountable. They try to hold students accountable. However, administrators bow down to parents when a fuss is made, so student accountability is nominal. And parental accountability is non-existant. It is grossly unfair to lay all the blame of poor student ability on teachers. Parents and students themselves are even more responsible for learning. Unfortunately, there is no way to enforce that responsibility.

As schools become more oriented towards sports and less about education there will be more dimwit whiners and less intelligence in the country,or should

English class is dull and boring. PlayStation, Xbox, Wii, Facebook, texting, and Twitter are cool. (LOL)

I've known all along that I'm gonna receive a lot of flak for my comment. But it's oftentimes better to tell the truth, even though it hurts, than lie or remain silent.

Hey, If the kids are particularly stupid maybe they should take it as a wakeup call, spend johnnies college fund on something worthwhile.

So many fragile people in society that need to be coddled, I can see why they look towards democrats to control their lives.. Sad state of affairs if you ask me!

Teachers........ call them the way they see them, they spend more time with your kids than you do. Parents...........just can't handle, realize or want the truth

This teacher was suspended for telling it as she sees it. I guess the ones who suspended her are the ones who would tell the teachers to give all A's to all the kids so their school would look better.

This teacher recognizes what the problems is with the students in her school. Shouldn't this be a reason for our federal and state gov'ts to designate more funding, and in some cases, no funding, earmarked for the school systems?

Sounds like the school should be shut down and students find other options

Ever notice how upset people get when you state the truth.

The problem is: parents don't parent, they want to be friends with their kids.....they don't want to make their life or the life of the kids difficult..........., and you're not teaching your children anything by running interference every time something at school happens, let them learn from their mistakes......hard as it might be........most of us survived and lived to tell about it!

      The teacher was probably right.

Did the parents take a good look at their kids after she made those comments? Maybe what she said is true. Maybe if these parents stopped watching crappy reality shows and picked up a book. You know...lead by example?

Where is the problem with truth? Many kids reach high school and can barely write their name. How did it wind up that a kid only has one class a week? They may pick and choose what they want to learn. I went to school five full days a week from eight until two. If I had any problems my parents backed the teachers and it was my responsibility to resolve. Sports were a reward. If a player did not have a C average they didn't play. What has happened to our educational system? Learning has been replaced by sports and parents become inflamed if the kids are forced to study instead of hang out on-line or spend homework time playing a computer game. Teachers burn out very fast. They are afraid of the principal who is afraid of the school board who is afraid of the parents who is afraid of the kid who are not afraid of anybody. Intelligence is measured by height. A kid who can't read or write must be passed to the next grade when that kid can't handle the current material. You may only fail a kid twice and face a mountain of required paper work and raging parents. When I attended larger desks would be required to prevent a kid's knees from reaching his chin but that student didn't leave that grade until all assigned curriculum for that grade was mastered.only with a D. I applaud a real teacher that points out a huge faux pas in the educational system.

Skeletor I am a high school student, and for the most part, what the teacher says is true. Unless they are in AP classes they are generally very dim.

I don't belong to any blogs, twitter, facebook and won't. If I need to say something I usually say it to ones face or am not afraid to say that I would not say to their face!
These blogs are far too dangerous today...for most who are concerned about their job! There are few things today that 'you' have a 'right to do'...speaking your thoughts is not one of them according to this school district.
