Student shot, wounded at NC high school

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say they will seek warrants against two people after a high school student was shot and wounded.

The Salisbury Post reports (http://bit.ly/1fUJNSW) police identified the victim as 16-year-old Salisbury High School freshman Shaleek Williams. He was shot around 3 p.m. Monday, after classes dismissed.

Rowan County Emergency Services Director Frank Thomason says the victim was taken to a hospital in a private car. It was expected that he would be released from the hospital Monday night.

Investigators say the shooting happened during a fight between two groups, including some Salisbury High students. Williams was punched in the face and then shot in the stomach.

Chief Rory Collins said two suspects ran from the scene.

Salisbury is about 40 miles northeast of Charlotte.
