Suffolk Fire & Rescue: 1 in critical condition after two-vehicle crash, vehicle fire

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash on Pruden Boulevard with a vehicle on fire on March 31, officials said.

The call came in around 12:40 p.m. Crews arrived around 12:45 p.m.

SFR and Suffolk Police responded to the 2800 Block of Pruden Boulevard, near the intersection of Northfield Drive.

One person is in critical condition.

Crews arrived to find one vehicle in fire and a second vehicle in a field. The vehicle on fire left Pruden Boulevard and hit a tree and then caught fire. Two occupants (drivers) of the vehicles were injured, and both were out of their vehicle upon arrival of fire and rescue. Engine 6 put the vehicle on fire out while Medic 3 provided advanced life support treatment to the drivers of the two vehicles until additional medics arrived.

Nightingale Air Ambulance was requested to air-transport one of the two patients. That driver sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition at an area hospital. The other driver was ground transported with serious, yet non life-threatening injuries. As of 2:45 p.m., Pruden Blvd is closed to traffic between Rt. 58 and Northfield Dr. and is expected to be closed until 3:15 p.m.

Suffolk Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
