Suh's $100,000 fine upheld
Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will have to pay up after an appeal of his $100,000 fine was rejected on Friday.
Suh was fined on Sept. 10 when he lllegally blocked Minnesota Vikings center John Sullivan below the waist on an interception return. The penalty wiped out a touchdown in the Lions' victory.
The fine is the largest in NFL history for an on-field incident, topping the $87,500 fine against Chicago Bears linebacker Bryan Cox in 1996 for making an obscene gesture and screaming obscenities to an official.
For Suh, the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2010 who has a five-year, $68 million contract, it was the sixth fine for his behavior during his four-year career. But he has vowed that the fines will not change the way he plays.
In five games this season, Suh has 17 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and a forced fumble. The Lions face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
The NFL also issues fines on Friday to Jerron McMillian of the Green Bay Packers ($15,750) for hitting a defenseless receiver in the head area, New York Giants safety Will Hill ($15,750) for striking a defenseless receiver in the head and neck area, Arizona Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington ($21,000) for roughing the passer, Lions defensive end Israel Idonije ($15,750) for a leg whip and Dallas Cowboys defensive end George Selvie ($7,785) for grabbing Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning's face mask.
