Supernatural's New Season 10 Trailer Rings In the Year of Demon Dean (VIDEO)

In the final moments of Supernatural's ninth season, Jensen Ackles' Dean Winchester died (again), only to come back as a demon. And even though fans have been complaining about the show's ongoing narrative rut ever since Season 6 (the first one without series creator Eric Kripke), it appears that the series is finally treading into unknown territory.

In recent years, typical Supernatural qualms have ranged from the show constantly repeating itself and recycling frustrating conflicts between the Winchesters to the way that death—especially with regard to Sam and Dean—is meaningless, because everyone comes back at some point. But now Dean isn't even human, and according to executive producer Jeremy Carver, Demon Dean will be sticking around for more than just one episode. He's already teased "a different type of Demon Dean than you might expect," and that fact is all but confirmed in the newest trailer for Season 10. Check it out below:

Although it's unclear whether Dean will actually be Crowley's (Mark Sheppard) butt monkey this season, a few things are certain: He's still a violent, angry man inside, but he no longer cares. His self-loathing and his desire to protect Sam (Jared Padalecki) have been replaced with a habit of succumbing to his deepest vices. He's banging chicks, he's trashing convenience stores and beating up the clerks to acquire porn, he's getting drunk and going to strip clubs, and... he's getting booed of the stage at karaoke? From the looks of things, Dean enjoys being a demon, and I think I might enjoy it a bit too—especially since we haven't really had the opportunity to see what an evil Dean looks like. It'll be interesting to see how Season 10 shakes out, and just how long it takes for Sam to ultimately find a way to make Dean human again.

The only thing I hate about this trailer? It doesn't really offer any hints as to what's going on with Misha Collins' Castiel, whose stolen grace is still fading. He's in danger of dying if he doesn't figure out how to deal with the situation, and I don't think any of us want to even IMAGINE a Supernatural without Castiel.

What do you think? Are you excited for Demon Dean? Are you worried about Cas?

Supernatural returns Tuesday, October 7 at 9pm on The CW.
