Suspect in LA police station shooting dies

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A man who allegedly shot up a Los Angeles police station, wounding an officer, has died at a hospital.

Coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter says 29-year-old Daniel Yealu died shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Yealu was wounded in a shootout with two officers April 7 at the West Traffic Division. He was charged with attempted murder.

Yealu, a onetime security guard, applied to join the LAPD in 2009 but was rejected. Police say he walked into the station, told the desk officer, "I have a complaint," and opened fire with a handgun.

The wounded officer is out of the hospital. The other officer wasn't hurt.

Authorities say they found an assault rifle in Yealu's car and a cache of weapons and ammunition at his home.
