NEW YORK (AP) — A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder in the stabbing deaths of five relatives, including four small children.

Mingdong Chen did not enter a plea at a court appearance Monday. He has been accused of butchering his cousin's wife and her four children in Brooklyn.

His defense attorney, Danielle Eaddy (EE'-dee), declined to comment.

Police say Chen had been staying with the family on the first floor of the two-story brick house for about a week. They say he implicated himself in the killings.

Neighbors and relatives say he was unemployed after being fired from a string of restaurant jobs he held for just a few weeks at a time.

The working-class neighborhood is dominated by a large community of immigrants from China.
