Swansea eases worries with 2-0 win over Fulham

SWANSEA, Wales (AP) — Swansea claimed its first win in nine Premier League games as deflected efforts by Jonjo Shelvey and Chico Flores earned the Welsh team a 2-0 victory over Fulham on Tuesday.

Shelvey struck in the 61st minute when his shot from the edge of the box took deflections off teammate Wilfried Bony and Fulham defender Brede Hangeland to beat goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

Flores' near-post header, which flicked in off Dimitar Berbatov, sealed the three points in the 75th to move Swansea up to mid-table and provisionally six points away from the bottom three.

Fourth-bottom Fulham failed to capitalize on excellent first-half chances for Hangeland and Ashkan Dejagah and remained a point above the relegation zone.
