Syfy Announces Premiere Dates for Dominion, Defiance, and More

Don't pack up that station wagon for the Grand Canyon just yet! Syfy has unveiled its summer schedule, which features the returns of Dominion and Defiance and the debuts of several new series, as well as the third Sharknado movie.

Summer starts for the network on Friday, June 12, when the third season of Defiance premieres at 8pm with a two-hour season opener. That will be followed at 10pm by the series premiere of Dark Matter, about the crew of a derelict spaceship that wakes up with no memories of who or where they are. But wait, there's more! The following week, Defiance returns to its typical one-hour runtime and new series Killjoys squeezes into the 9pm timeslot between Defiance and Dark Matter. If you've been jonesing for a somewhat-lighthearted sci-fi drama about interplanetary bounty hunters then you're in luck, because that's the premise of Killjoys in a nutshell.

If you're looking for more of an angels and demons fix, that will come in July, when Season 2 of Dominion (this confusing, overstuffed show got a second season?!?!?) premieres Thursday, July 9 at 10pm. Later in the month, Geeks Who Drink, a pub-trivia game show hosted by Zachary Levi, will debut on Thursday, July 16 at 11:30pm. But let's all agree to call it Getting Drunk With Chuck instead, okay?

And well deserving of its own paragraph, Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! will leave your eyes rolling on Wednesday, July 22 at 9pm. Syfy will bookend Sharknado 3 with "Sharknado Week" programming from July 18 to July 25, including original movies featuring various shark monsters and the premiere of Lavalantula, starring Steve Guttenberg as a guy who battles lava-breathing (or is it more like puking?) giant spiders in Los Angeles.

Finally, Face Off returns for Season 9 on Tuesday, July 28 at 9pm. There's no word yet on when Continuum will return for its shortened final season.
