    Syrian newspaper welcomes UN veto

    BEIRUT (AP) — A Syrian state-run newspaper has welcomed the Russian and Chinese veto of a U.N. Security Council resolution aimed at stopping Damascus' crackdown on the country's uprising.

    The Sunday article in Tishreen daily says that authorities will continue their efforts to bring back stability to the country.

    The double-veto outraged the U.S. and European council members who feared it would embolden the regime of President Bashar Assad.

    Tishreen also described the Saturday veto as an incentive for Damascus to continue with announced political reforms, which include drafting a new constitution and new parliamentary elections.

    The crackdown on the nearly 11-month uprising has left more than 5,400 people dead, according to the U.N.

      If the West and the UN do really care about people in the Middle East, then where were they when Israel savagely bombarded Gaza with phosphoric bombs???
      Now they pretend loving and want to protect Arabs! Is there any glimpse of democracy in Saudia, Kuwait, Qatar, Morocco or Jordan? But that is fine because these are at the sold of the USA.

        No there are no glimpse in democracy in the Arab or Muslim world in general, that I agree, ,
        but do not try to tell me that Hamas are not the one who usually start the shelling.
        Israel also has to defend itself
        Hammas has vowed never to recognize Israel and to eliminate the jewish state , this is no secret and therefore it is a permanent state of war and in war there are two sides.
        The PLO recognizes Israel why not Hammas?
        For you it seems that every body has sold out to the USA , you are definitely a Muslim and maybe an Arab so what are you doing there, have you sold out and became an American citizen?

      Attack on Iraq left 1 Million dead and it sure does not make the controlled Western press day after day after day..
      The propaganda and brainwashing should have made the americans immune but they lap up the crap day after day and when the time comes to attack a foreign country they are all for it even though the US is bankrupted from these attacks which kills huge numbers of innocent foreigners.

        ! million dead? Your nuts. there wasn't a million people killed in any war ( excluding Nazi extermination of Jews) also, the US uses precision rockets to cut down on civilian deaths. If civilians do get killed its because "Supreme Leader" used them as human shields. I do not think you will see another country do its best not kill civilians. The US could easily be like Hitler and just destroy cities along with the civilians, but that is not the way we do things.If there were 1 million killed in Iraq it was because Hussein killed them.As much as the Middle East causes problems for the world a Hitler style invasion may be a good idea.

Why waste time there. 2nd of all the Syrians love to have Russina and Chines dik, crank and cok shoved down their throats while they gurgle the load from their Masters. Their time willl come. This is not over, again going to the UN a waste of Time. The US and Turkey and Others will take the lead and finish this once and for alll. there is nada that the Russians and Chinese can do about it. Security council. JOKE......
