AT&T announces rugged Sonim XP6 Android device with focus on communications

Last week I posted some thoughts on the upcoming Sonim XP7. AT&T announced the Sonim XP6, another rugged Android phone for the field worker.
Unlike the Sonim XP7, the XP6 has both a touchscreen and a physical phone keypad. It is built to be waterproof, dustproof, and drop resistant with IP68, IP69, and MIL-STD 810G standards. Push-to-talk is supported on the AT&T network so it functions like a mobile radio too.
Like the XP7, the Sonim XP6 has a massive battery (4,820 mAh), extremely loud top speaker (103dB output), and full 3-year warranty. Other key specifications include a 2.64 inch 320x432 resolution LCD display, Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz processor, 8GB internal memory, 1GB RAM, 5 megapixel camera, and LTE radio.
Given the limited amount of storage, this particular rugged phone is built for field communications in any environmental condition. The small screen limits the data experience, but the phone keypad, physical buttons, loud speaker, and PTT functionality make it an excellent communicator.
The Sonim XP6 is available now from AT&T for $524.99 with no contract, $149.99 with 2-year contract, and $17.50/month for 30 months with AT&T Next.
