Tax breaks just the start of Wash. pitch to Boeing
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Even after ushering through $9 billion in tax breaks for Boeing Co., state leaders in Washington told the company they were ready to do more to help the aerospace giant.
In a 164-page proposal released Wednesday under public disclosure laws, Gov. Jay Inslee and his administration vowed to work with Boeing on water quality issues, workers' compensation costs and improved transportation infrastructure.
State officials identified more than $4 billion potentially new transportation projects that they deemed "key to Boeing's success in Washington State."
Washington leaders approved the $9 billion in tax breaks in November to aid Boeing, and the additional written proposal was designed to woo Boeing as the company considered competing bids from around the country. That pitch ended up being unnecessary after the Machinists in the Puget Sound approved concessions that secured Boeing's promise of 777X work for the region.
