    Tax Season is Upon Us – More Taxes Brings More Hiring for Accountants

    Hiring demand for Accountants in the last quarter of 2011 grew 33% compared to 2010, with more than 76,000 new job ads posted online, according to WANTED Analytics™.

    During October, November, and December of 2011, more than 76,000 job ads for Accountants and Auditors were posted online, according to WANTED Analytics™ (http://www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. Hiring demand during the last quarter of 2011 grew 33% versus the same time period in 2010. Hiring for Accountants was strong in 2011, with more than 292,000 jobs posted online at a 25% increase compared to 2010. However, demand for this occupation has yet to bounce back to pre-recession levels and is down 31% from 2008.

    Metropolitan areas with the highest volume of job listings for Accountants and Auditors during October, November, and December of 2011 were New York, Los Angeles, Washington (DC), Chicago, and Boston. Employers in New York placed the most job ads, with more than 7,800 unique listings during this three-month period at a 24% increase versus 2010. However, Chicago experienced the greatest year-over-year growth, up 39% compared to the same three months in 2010.

    Recruiters sourcing for Accountants are likely to find these jobs moderately hard-to-fill, with conditions varying slightly by location depending on the available talent supply. According to the Hiring Scale™, companies in Chicago are currently experiencing one of the most difficult conditions when recruiting candidates for accounting openings. Hiring for Accountants in Chicago grew significantly, while the local talent pool remains smaller than average. Employers in this area are likely to compete heavily to attract talent and experience a longer time-to-fill than many other areas across the United States. The average duration of an online job posting in Chicago is 7 weeks, one week longer than the national average. In comparison, the Hiring Scale also shows that the easiest places to currently recruit Accountants are Jefferson City (MO), Beaumont-Port Arthur (TX), and Tallahassee (FL). These areas are likely to fill job openings faster than the rest of the United States.
