Ted Cruz on Presidential Race: GOP Wins on Economy, Loses on Personality

Ted Cruz, the GOP candidate for Senate in Texas, said on Sunday that the Republican Party needs to focus on economic issues to win the presidential race.

“If this presidential race focuses on issues, if it focuses on the economy, on President Obama’s abysmal economic record, Republicans win,” Cruz said on NBC’s Meet the Press. “If it’s a battle of personalities, Republicans will lose.”

Republicans have been concerned about polls consistently showing that voters find Obama more likeable than Mitt Romney.

Cruz said he thinks Romney's running-mate choice of Rep. Paul Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman who is known for his conservative budget and Medicare proposals, will help keep the race focused on economic issues.
