Teen’s Coffin Becomes a Touching Yearbook-Style Tribute
Laura Hillier, an 18-year-old from Burlington, Canada, had been battling acute myeloid leukemia for years. Sadly, the teen passed away on January 20 — and now touching photos have surfaced of the unique sendoff her friends and family arranged.
Here, her white coffin is shown covered in handwritten notes — a creative but sad twist to notes traditionally written in high school yearbooks.

Hillier had been waiting for years to receive a stem-cell transplant, but a hospital bed shortage led to the the teen being placed on a waiting list even though she had a donor match.
In August 2015, Hillier got her hospital bed and underwent surgery, but her cancer returned three months later. After several more months in intensive care, she left the hospital again on January 1. Hillier was supposed to go to City of Hope, a hospital in California, for additional treatment on January 18, but was unable to travel due to medical complications. She died later that week, and her funeral service was held on January 30.
