Tembo for Mac review

Tembo is a search application that allows you to quickly search through all of the files on your storage system. It gives you a number of useful options for filtering search results to make finding your files easier. It is a small, easy-to-use program that could be very useful for people with large amounts of data on their computers.

Pros

Excellent filters: When you search your computer for a key phrase, the odds are that you'll get an impossibly long list of results. This is especially true for older systems that have a huge volume of files. Tembo allows you to easily apply filters, so that you only get the types of search results that you want, such as documents or picture files.

Easy to control: Tembo is very easy to control. A short list along the right-hand side of the app allows you to select file types, file creation dates, or locations that the program should search.

Fast searching: Even when searching large volumes simultaneously, Tembo came back with search results quite quickly. It was as fast or faster than Spotlight, the built-in search function in OS X.

Cons

Lack of help: A built-in help system would have been very helpful with Tembo. Although you can perform the basic operations easily, you can tell from looking at the menus that there are more powerful options within the program. However, the best ways to use these aren't readily apparent. A built-in help feature with explanations of the various features might have opened up the program a little bit more.

Bottom Line

If you're dissatisfied with Spotlight, you should give Tembo a try. It is a powerful, quick, and efficient search utility. The helpful search filters and controls make using it to find a lost file a snap.
