    Located in the center of the metropolitan Phoenix area, Tempe is the perfect home base for spring baseball. From March 2 through April 4, 2012, Cactus League Spring Training brings 15 MLB teams to 10 stadiums to play more than 200 games.     Cactus League Spring Training is a great opportunity for fans to preview the 2012 Major League Baseball season. Home to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the recently renovated Tempe Diablo Stadium offers visitors a scenic mountain view and affordable ticket prices, starting at just $10. Baseball fans can see their favorite teams such as the Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers play in an intimate setting.

    This year, Cactus League Spring Training attendance is expected to be larger than ever. Major League Baseball player Albert Pujols will make his debut in the American League as he joins the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for his first spring training season with the team. Described as one of the best players in the league, Pujols is sure to create an exciting atmosphere.

    The fun in Tempe doesn’t end after the final play. Fans looking for even more baseball entertainment can explore the “Play Ball: The Cactus League Experience” exhibition at the Arizona Historical Society Museum in Tempe’s Papago Park. The 3,000-square foot exhibit will include more than 400 items that show the history of Cactus League Spring Training in Arizona. Items include a rare 1951 New York Yankees Spring Training program from when the Yankees were at Phoenix Municipal Stadium for only one year. There is also a silver serving tray engraved with the signatures of the 1954 World Champion New York Giants. The exhibition is organized historically and by team, so fans can easily find their favorite memorabilia.

    Before and after the games, spring training baseball fans can enjoy activities such as shopping, dining, sightseeing and a variety of attractions. The Mill Avenue District in Tempe is the perfect gathering spot, with more than 100 shops, restaurants, taverns and theatres located along tree-lined, red brick sidewalks. Other popular Tempe activities include taking a hike at “A” Mountain or Papago Park, dining and shopping at Tempe Marketplace, sampling ethnic cuisine at one of the many locally owned eateries near Arizona State University, seeing a Broadway show at ASU Gammage or bargain hunting at Arizona Mills.
