- Twelve months after crashing to his worst defeat in New York in a decade, Roger Federer heads to the 2014 US Open poised to win his 18th Grand Slam title.
The 33-year-old, written off after a fourth round loss to Tommy Robredo in 2013, claimed a sixth Cincinnati title on Sunday.
The Swiss, whose last Grand Slam victory was at Wimbledon in 2012, never doubted his ability to remain a force and goes into his 15th US Open back up to number three in the world and with second seeding after Rafael Nadal's withdrawal.
"I come in with great confidence," said Federer, chasing a record sixth title in New York.
"I know my game is where I want it to be. It's about just keeping that level up right now."
