Tesla opens first Canadian retail store

PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) — Electric car company Tesla Motors on Friday opened its first retail store in Canada.

The Toronto store features interactive displays and studios where customers can design a vehicle on a touchscreen and then view it on an 85-inch video wall in the back of the store.

The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company focuses on placing its stores and showrooms in high foot-traffic locations like shopping centers. The Toronto store is one of 10 new locations Tesla has opened this fall. By the end of this year, Tesla said it expects to will have 24 locations in North America and 34 across the world.

Tesla shares rose $1.04, or 3.4 percent, to $31.86 in afternoon trading.
